Standard fittings, scleral lenses, orthokeratology, and hard-to-fit solutions.

Contact lens fitting at SD Eye Care

Whether you're a first-time wearer or have been told you're "hard to fit," our optometrists have the expertise and technology to find the right lens for your eyes. We fit standard soft lenses at all four locations, and offer specialty lens options at West Edmonton Eye Care.

Types of lenses we fit

Standard soft lenses Daily disposables, bi-weekly, and monthly lenses in sphere, toric (astigmatism), and multifocal designs. Available at all locations.

Scleral lenses (West Edmonton Eye Care only) Large-diameter rigid lenses that vault over the cornea and rest on the white of the eye. Ideal for keratoconus, severe dry eye, irregular corneas, and patients who have failed standard lenses.

Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) (West Edmonton Eye Care only) Overnight rigid lenses that gently reshape the cornea while you sleep, providing clear vision during the day without glasses or contacts. Also used for myopia management in children.

What to expect at your fitting

  1. Baseline measurements — corneal topography, pupil size, tear film evaluation
  2. Diagnostic lens trial — wearing a trial lens for 15–20 minutes
  3. Over-refraction — fine-tuning the prescription in lens
  4. Handling instruction — insertion, removal, and care

Contact lenses for astigmatism

If you have astigmatism, you may experience blurry or distorted vision due to an irregularly shaped cornea. Toric contact lenses are specifically designed to correct this common vision condition.

  • Soft toric lenses — available in daily and monthly disposable options, in single-vision, multifocal, and hybrid designs
  • Gas-permeable toric lenses — custom-designed from a rigid, oxygen-permeable material for moderate to severe astigmatism
  • Scleral lenses — for very high astigmatism, providing a wider diameter and stable, comfortable fit

Myopia control contact lenses

  • CooperVision MiSight — daily disposable soft lenses clinically proven to slow myopia progression in children
  • Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) — overnight rigid lenses that reshape the cornea, temporarily correcting myopia during the day
