What is orthokeratology?
Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) contact lenses offer a non-surgical and reversible solution for clear vision without the hassle of glasses or daytime contacts. These specially designed gas-permeable lenses are worn while you sleep, gently reshaping the cornea to correct nearsightedness. In the morning, the eyes are the correct shape to provide clear vision without glasses.
Who should book: Adults with myopia or astigmatism who want freedom from daytime glasses and contacts, children whose myopia is progressing, and people who are not candidates for vision correction surgery.
How Ortho-K works
Ortho-K lenses work overnight to gently reshape the cornea while you sleep. The lenses apply a precise, controlled pressure that flattens the central cornea just enough to correct your refractive error. When you remove the lenses in the morning, your reshaped cornea focuses light correctly — giving you clear vision throughout the day.
The effect is temporary and reversible. If you stop wearing the lenses, your cornea gradually returns to its original shape.
Ortho-K is a great option to
- Slow the progression of myopia in children
- Correct refractive errors such as myopia and astigmatism in adults
- Help people who are not candidates for vision correction surgery
- Provide freedom from glasses and daytime contacts for active lifestyles
Myopia management in children
Ortho-K is one of the most effective tools for slowing myopia progression in children. As nearsightedness in children increases rapidly worldwide, managing it early can reduce the risk of serious eye conditions later in life — including retinal detachment, glaucoma, and macular degeneration.
We regularly fit children as young as 8 with Ortho-K lenses for myopia management when appropriate.
What to expect at your fitting
- Comprehensive assessment — corneal topography, refraction, and tear film evaluation
- Custom lens design — lenses are designed based on the precise shape of your cornea
- Overnight trial — you wear the lenses home and return the next morning for evaluation
- Follow-up visits — we monitor your corneal shape and vision over the first few weeks
Follow-up visits are scheduled to monitor your corneal response and adjust as needed.
